My name is Julia Michal and I am- what the locals would call me- a transplant here in New York City. I moved to this great city in June ’09 to get involved in the art scene. And what an amazing scene there is. I go to various art show openings, along with other art related events, to see art and meet the different people around it. But lately it seems as if something is lacking. You can read all day about techniques used and hear what critics- professional and everyday- have to say but there’s more to it than that. What makes a work of art a masterpiece is the emotions it can create.  When a person can sense something from artwork, if its good or bad, it’s memorable. Understand sentiment of the art. Feel the passion within yourself. Just feel the art- it is an indescribable event and something never to be forgotten. Too much focus has been taken from this very important principle and I aspire to bring it back. As I continue to attend different art events I will inquire about personal emotions of the works of art and recount the overall atmosphere of the event right here on this blog. To be continued…

  1. Hi Julia,

It’s great to find someone looking for the passion in art!

I’m not in the city, but upstate in Ithaca. Hope you’ll take a look at my website and tell me what you think.

I know exactly what you mean about wanting to find the emotion behind work. I stumbled on your site because I noticed you mentioned my husband’s art show opening IN YOUR FACE–it’s all about human emotion! Check out the site when you have time http://www.paintwilson.com/IYF

    Thanks!
